Artist Opportunities
Central Corridor Light Rail Transit - Minneapolis, MN
The Metropolitan Council, on behalf of the Central Corridor Light Rail Transit (CCLRT) project is issuing a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) seeking artists for the design, fabrication and installation of integrated art on the CCLRT. The Council is seeking up to five artists to create integrated, outdoor public art to enhance 15 new light rail stations. The CCLRT is an 11-mile light rail corridor connecting downtown Saint Paul and downtown Minneapolis. Integrated art is that which enhances existing system elements, rather than creates a freestanding art piece. Examples include customized platform paving, shelters, furnishings, barriers, railings, and monuments/markers. Fee for each station is approximately $187,000 and individual contract amounts will vary depending upon the number of stations awarded to a particular artist or artist team. Center for the Arts Evergreen - WinterFest 2008
Winterfest is a one day festival held indoors at Evergreen High School in Evergreen, Colorado. Exhibition Proposals - Longview, WA
The Art Gallery at Lower Columbia College in Longview, Washington is accepting submission for exhibitions for the 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 academic years. The gallery functions as a resource for students, educators, artists and the public-at-large. Submissions are limited to 2-D, 3-D and installation work. Court Facility - St. George, UT
The Utah Arts Council's Public Art program, in collaboration with the Division of Facilities Construction and Management, announces a call for artist qualifications for the creation of site-specific public art for the new Fifth District Court facility planned for St. George, Utah. This new 93,000 square-foot court facility will be located adjacent to the historic Town Square of St. George. The landmark building will have a sandstone facade with neoclassical detailing, in keeping with the historic environment of the district's pioneer era buildings. Interested artists and/or artist teams living in the Western United States (Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Nevada, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, Washington, Oregon, and California) are encouraged to submit a letter of interest and qualifications. The receipt deadline for the submission of materials is 5:00 p.m. on Friday, June 27, 2008. Couture Jewelry Award & Sale
The Couture Jewelry Design Award was founded in 2006 for the purpose of awarding couture, or "one of a kind," jewelry designers in the time honored tradition of museum quality jewelry. The purpose of this award is to foster and promote talent within the arena of jewelry design using precious materials and gems. The Couture Jewelry Award & Sale is a unique event, created to foster the artistry of jewelry design, offering a gold medal award to honor the recipient along with a sale and show of 40 of the finest jewelry artists. The award recipients will receive gift certificates from Hoover and Strong, Gemstones, cash prizes and a gold medal. The show and sale will feature 45 of the best jewelry designers in the world and will take place on December 8th in Manhattan on New York's Upper East Side, during New York City's holiday season, directly across from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Please Touch Again
Tohono Chul Park is looking for artists to submit their work for an upcoming exhibit entitled Please Touch Again . The artwork submitted must be completely touchable, having tactile or perhaps sound qualities. The exhibit will open on August 21 and continue through November 9, 2008 in the Exhibit Hall. Labels for the exhibit will be provided in large print and Braille, and Tohono Chul Park plans to provide audio-described tours as well. Fall Art Hop
October 3-30, 2008. Georgetown Art Works, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the arts in the City of Georgetown Texas, announces a call for artists for the Fall Art Hop, a juried art show and stroll, to be held October 3-31, 2008 in the historic district of Georgetown, Texas. Artisphere
Artisphere is a 3-day, open-air event situated in the West End Historic District of Downtown Greenville, South Carolina. This International Arts Festival includes a wide array of performing arts in local theaters and outdoor amphitheaters, visual art exhibits, a food and blues cafe, a children's art activities area, and the centerpiece of the festival, the Open Air Artist Row. Self-Portrait Exhibition: Introspections
The Smithtown Township Arts Council is now accepting entries for Introspections, A Juried Self-Portrait Exhibition to be held August 16- September 22, 2008. Juror Amy Mackie is an assistant curator at the New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York. Artists are invited to submit work exploring various modes of representing the self. Neptune Festival Art & Craft Show - Virginia Beach, VA
The Neptune Festival Art & Craft Show is produced by the Contemporary Art Center of Virginia and is part of a longstanding, citywide festival. The show runs continuously along the boardwalk from 17th Street to 32nd Street, overlooking the beautiful Atlantic Ocean and vast sandy beach. Artists and craftsmen in all media are eligible, and acceptance is based on a blind jury process. This show does not include a section for commercial or imported products. In all cases, the spirit of our guidelines intends that the work depend heavily on the "handmade" aspect of art and craft. Artist Trust
The Artist Trust/Washington State Arts Commission Fellowship Program recognizes practicing professional artists of exceptional talent and demonstrated ability, acknowledging an artist s creative excellence and accomplishment, professional achievement and continuing dedication to their artistic discipline. The Artist Trust/WSAC Fellowship Program makes annual awards of $6,500 each to Washington artists working in four disciplines. In 2008 (and even-numbered years), 21 individual, generative* artists who work in Emerging Fields & Cross-Disciplinary Arts, Performing Arts, Traditional & Folk Arts, and Visual Arts will receive Fellowships. (In odd-numbered years, Fellowships are awarded to artists working in Craft Arts, Literary Arts, Media Arts, and Music Arts.) *Generative artists are defined as the originators of a work of art. Juvenile Justice Center - Alameda County, CA
Alameda County artists are invited to submit their qualifications for the Small Scale Artwork Commission Program. This program will commission artists to produce a new series of artwork in the studio. At the end of the 6-month contract period, the artist's output will be acquired by the County and will become part of the Alameda County Art Collection: Artwork Created by Alameda County Artists. Artists who make two-dimensional, low-relief or wall sculptural artwork are invited to apply. The artwork will be installed at the Alameda County Juvenile Justice Center. Up to $110,000 is available to commission approximately 15 artists to make new artwork for this program. Call for Photography - Glimpses in Time
Photographers working in all styles, in traditional or digital formats, are invited to enter up to two of their photographic images for the international juried photography exhibition - Glimpses in Time. This year's exhibit pays tribute to the life and art of James Van Der Zee, an American-born photographer who produced the most comprehensive documentation of the Harlem Renaissance. From Our Perspective is a national women's art exhibition sponsored by the Oakland Community College Womencenter in Farmington Hills, Michigan. Please submit your digital entries by August 1, 2008. This juried exhibit will feature women artists and will include two- and three-dimensional works of art. Daily Constitutional Seeks SoundCast Submissions
SoundCast is Daily Constitutional's curated online exhibition of unlimited edition, downloadable Sound Art. Currently each exhibition is featured for three months, and then archived to feature the next exhibition. Next review Deadline: June 21, 2008 for the July-Sept Exhibition. Audio works should be mixed for two channel listening. There is no length limit to the audio works, but please remember people will be downloading them and large files might be a deterrent to listeners. Submitted sound files should be compressed in MP3 format. Submissions should also include: Image to accompany download (300 x 300 @ 72dpi, Daily Constitutional will resize it for the web); Title of piece, Date Artist Name; Length of piece; Short description if you would like to set up the piece or if there are specific instructions (i.e. best if listened to on headphones/speakers). Harborview Medical Center - Seattle, WA
4Culture is seeking two artists from Harborview's WAMI service area (WA, AK, MT and ID) to create works for the Ninth & Jefferson Building at 500 - 9th Avenue in Seattle, Washington. Lobby Floor Opportunity: The $75,000 artwork budget covers the costs of the artist's design and coordination fees as well as altering the stone with the artist's design. This may include (but not be limited to) etching, sandblasting, or creating inlays of contrasting materials in the stone, Yanshan Green granite with a flame finish. The stone material and the installation of the stone will be provided by the construction project budget. The lobby is split into a garage lobby (600 SF approx) and building lobby (1000 SF approx). Medical Examiner's Office: The $25,000 budget covers the artist's design fees, fabrication and installation of the artwork. It is the intention that this work be appropriately designed for the physical layout of the KCME's Office as well as the function, but it is not necessary to architecturally integrate the work. The Medical Examiner's Office serves the living, by investigating sudden, violent, unexpected, and suspicious deaths which occur in King County and will occupy 22,500 square feet on the second floor level of the building. WSAC Public Artist Roster - Seattle, WA
The Washington State Arts Commission is accepting applications for its Public Artist Roster of professional visual artists eligible for commissions of new work through the Art in Public Places Program. Selected artists will be qualified for state percent-for-art projects with budgets from $25,000-$300,000 in colleges, universities, public schools, and state agencies. Eastern New Mexico University Science Building - Portales, NM
Portales NM New Mexico Arts and Eastern New Mexico University wish to commission an artwork for the newly renovated Science Building located on the University's campus in Portales, New Mexico. Artists submitting qualifications should be experienced in creating environments or installations on a large scale. The LSC seeks an artist able to create a project that will unify the entire Science Building and elements from all branches of science. The artwork may use any or all of the available space to illustrate this theme. Project budget is $70,000 all inclusive. Up to five finalists will be chosen.
