ArtistsRegister.com member Craig Cheply will be exhibiting 5 of his Contemporary Fierce Reality paintings in Shemer Art Center and Museum's juried group exhibit, Landscaped. Handmade Felt workshop
January 26-27, 2008. Saturday and Sunday from 10:00-4:00pm. Handmade Felt workshop: Hold Everything! Purses, Bags, Vessels. Felt-making is advancing in design and technique by leaps and bounds around the world. ArtistsRegister.com member Jane Hoffman's felt-work has led her in new exciting directions which she is happy to share with others. It is a wonderful time to be working in this medium. Heat, soapy water, and agitation are the only elements needed to turn wool fleece into the eco-friendly medium of handmade felt. Participants will learn how to create, carve and shape templates for ornaments and containers. We will then prepare the wool shapes for felting in the washing machine. There will be time to apply a variety of surface design techniques including mixed media applications, embroidery and needle felting. Desert Weaving Workshop, 512 South 6th Avenue, Tucson, AZ 85701.

Gallery at Flashpoint & Mead Theatre Lab Program
The Gallery at Flashpoint and Mead Theatre Lab Program are currently accepting proposals for their 2008-09 season. Applications are due January 11, 2008. Flashpoint is a dynamic arts space dedicated to nurturing and growing emerging artists and cultural organizations. Outdoor Downtown Sculpture Exhibit - Lawrence, KS
The Lawrence Arts Commission is accepting submissions for the 21st Annual Lawrence Outdoor Downtown Sculpture Exhibit. The Juror for the 2008 exhibition is artist Bill Buchen, of Brooklyn, NY. Works that expand the idea of what public sculpture can be are encouraged. All work entered must be free standing, suitable for long-term outdoor public display. The durability of the work will be a consideration for selection. Since the show is in a high traffic area, safety of the public including children must be taken into consideration. Work must be as vandal proof as possible and cannot have sharp edges or be breakable. Several sites are available for ground-mounted works. All accepted entries must be capable of being properly secured to a site. Honorarium: $750 per selected piece. Entries must be received by Monday, January 28, 2008. Call for Artists - The American Academy of Equine Art
Fall open juried exhibition of original work depicting the horse in any setting. Open to all artists over the age of 18. All art must be original work depicting the horse in any setting. Representations of all breeds are encouraged and accepted. Categories include oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, drawing, and sculpture. Sculpture is only considered in a permanent medium. No stained glass, textiles, photography, jewelry, reproductions or computer-made graphics will be accepted. All work must be completed. A non-refundable entry fee of $40 plus a $5 processing fee for each entry submitted on slides or photos (there is no processing fee for entries submitted on CDs) must accompany the entry form. Sculpted Green Call for Artists - Bellevue, WA
Bellevue Sculpture Exhibition 2008 seeks outdoor and indoor sculptures for its biennial exhibition. All professional sculptors are invited to submit work for review. Artists are encouraged to submit work that relates art to ecology, environmentalism, and similar "green" notions. This theme can be addressed through artistic medium, technique, and/or content. Sculptures can be made, for example, from recycled materials, powered by solar or wind energy, and/or thematically linked to sustainability to inspire green thinking, dialogue and decision making. Sculptures will be selected based first on quality and aesthetic appeal. Entries aligning with the exhibition theme will then receive preferred consideration. Selection by an outstanding panel of regionally and nationally respected jurors. No fees. Honoraria, shipping and mileage reimbursement, insurance and free or assisted installation offered. Aaina: South Asian Women Film Focus
Tasveer, an independent film organization in Seattle, seeks short films, experimental films, documentaries, and narratives of any length for submission for Aaina: South Asian Women Film Focus. The event will take place in Seattle on March 28-30, 2008 on the occasion of International Women's Month. Film themes must have primary focus on issues pertaining to South Asian women (living anywhere in the world). "South Asia" includes Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Tibet. New England Foundation for the Arts Offers Funding for Native American Artists
The New England Foundation for the Arts is accepting grant proposals for the Native Arts @ NEFA program. The program will provide grants in amounts up to $3,000 each to support Native artists residing in New England. Projects should focus on art making and its benefit to New England communities. Projects may address preservation of arts and cultural traditions, contemporary native arts, and/or training and technical assistance. Eligible applicants include Native artists demonstrating knowledge and experience in their art form, medium, or media; Native organizations committed to preserving and encouraging art and art making in their communities; and artists and organization leaders who are members of or affiliated with a Native American tribal nation and reside in one of the six New England states. Application deadlines are January 15, 2008 (for projects occurring between March 1, 2008, and February 28, 2009); and July 15, 2008 (for projects occurring between September 1, 2008, and August 31, 2009). Lynn and Jules Kroll Fund for Jewish Documentary Film
The Foundation for Jewish Culture (formerly the National Foundation for Jewish Culture) invests in creative individuals in order to nurture a vibrant and enduring Jewish identity, culture, and community. The foundation's Lynn and Jules Kroll Fund for Jewish Documentary Film provides grants for the completion of original documentary films and videos that promote thoughtful consideration of Jewish history, culture, and identity. The priority of the fund is to support projects in the final stages of post-production that address significant subjects; offer fresh, challenging perspectives; engage audiences across cultural lines; and expand the understanding of Jewish experience. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (director or producer); be in post-production at the time of application; be an individual, a nonprofit organization with federal tax exempt status, or have a fiscal conduit that agrees to receive and administer an award on behalf of the project; have creative, editorial, and budgetary control of the proposed project; and own the copyright of the completed film. Franklin Furnace Grants
The mission of Franklin Furnace Archive Inc. is "to present, preserve, interpret, proselytize, and advocate on behalf of avant-garde art, especially forms that may be vulnerable due to institutional neglect, their ephemeral nature, or politically unpopular content." As part of that mission, Franklin Furnace annually awards project-based grants to emerging artists, allowing them to produce major works in New York. Works may engage the Internet as an art medium and/or venue. Artists from all areas of the world are encouraged to apply. Full-time students are ineligible. Grants will range between $2,000 and $5,000 each. Deadline: April 1, 2008. 57th Street Art Fair 2008
Every year on the first full weekend in June, tens of thousands of art enthusiasts converge on the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago, adjacent to the University of Chicago campus, for the 57th Street Art Fair. The Fair has been going strong since 1948, providing artists from throughout the country the opportunity to exhibit their original work in a unique outdoor setting and giving collectors a chance to buy directly from the artists. Although most exhibitors are returning artists, each year the Fair invites a limited number of new artists whose work has been selected by a jury of art professionals. Please complete our application if you are a new artist and wish to submit your work for consideration, or if you are a returning artist and would like to reserve a booth space.
