Celebration of Flight: Women in Aviation
ArtistsRegister.com member J.Geer Kellas will be participating in Celebration of Flight: Women in Aviation at the Burkholder Project in Lincoln, Nebraska, on August 3, 2007. More than 25 pieces celebrating 20+ women aviators from the early 1900s to current times. The work is in several media: paintings, mixed media collage, serigraphy, graphite and silverpoint drawings. Some of the women depicted are quite famous, i.e. Amelia Earhart. However, many of these pilots are minimally recognized in our history books or not at all: women like Evelyn Sharp, Louise Thaden, Fay Gillis Wells and Patty Wagstaff.

Bordeaux Center Office Park - Sunnyvale, CA
The Bordeaux Center is seeking an artist to create an exterior site-specific, original public artwork for its public plaza. Works in a variety of durable media and forms will be considered including free standing sculpture, installations, and functional elements such as seating. The artwork will be situated in the plaza between the two buildings. The plaza will be the focal point for employees and visitors entering the Bordeaux Center, as well as a resting spot for people. The Bordeaux Center is currently being constructed as a spec building. As it is located in the heart of Silicon Valley, occupants are likely to be high-tech firms. Yummy
NEXUS/foundation for today's art is seeking artists' work for Yummy, scheduled for December 5, 2007 through January 27, 2008. Yummy is a group exhibition and public celebration that explores the vast impact food has on contemporary American society. The artwork in Yummy will address two major topics: cultural food traditions as related to family customs and social norms; and the influence of the entertainment and advertising industry has on our eating habits. Yummy includes not only a gallery installation involving edible and non-edible art, but also a series of extended programming including lecturers, panel discussions, film screenings, performances and food-related happenings. Required materials: artist's statement; artist's resume; slides, or CD-ROM of up to ten images, or for New Media and time-based media (Sound, Film/Video, Performance, etc.), up to ten minutes on CD or DVD. Creative Images 2007
Photo Competition Call For Entry. Deadline for entry is August 15, 2007 or receipt of the first 500 applications, whichever comes first. The Photo Venture Camera Club, a 30 year member of the Indianapolis art community, wants your images in Creative Images 2007, a fine art photography competition. The competition is open to anyone and there is no specific theme. Monochrome and color images will be judged separately and will receive separate awards for first through third prize and honorable mentions. There will be a single award for Best in Show. Images will be on display during the month of November at the Arts Garden in Indianapolis, a space designed for display and performance. @Central Gallery - Phoenix, AZ
Burton Barr Central Library is seeking submissions from artists for its @Central Gallery. Proposals will be accepted for solo and group exhibitions from artists residing in Arizona, 18 years or older and are not currently represented by a gallery. Artists may submit up to 10 images in slide or digital format following the prospectus instructions. Works previously exhibited in @Central Gallery and artists who have had solo exhibitions in the past two years are not eligible for submission. The submission fee is $15. 9 Public Art Projects - Dallas, TX
The City of Dallas Public Art Program is seeking qualified artists for 9 new projects related to major parks and historic facilities. The public art budgets for these projects range from $26,000 to $300,000 for a total of $1,500,000. Several projects will call for artwork to be integrated into indoor facilities, while others will focus on exterior spaces and environmental contexts. Integrated projects will involve collaboration with designers. One of the projects will require experience with lighting design and/or art installations with light while another may call for a signature artwork related to the function of the facility. A panel of arts professionals, community representatives, and design professionals will invite a limited number of artists to submit proposals for each project or will recommend artists following interviews. Modest stipends will be provided to compensate artists who submit proposals. It is anticipated that final selections will be completed for all of the projects within the next 5 to 10 months. This competition is open to local, regional, and national artists. Deadline: 5:00pm, Wednesday, August 15, 2007. Englewood Golf Course - Englewood, CO
The Englewood Golf Course wishes to purchase a completed outdoor sculpture for the Englewood Golf Course, located at 2101 W. Oxford Avenue. Multiple works may be chosen for one or more landscaped locations in front of the golf course clubhouse or outside the golf course restaurant. Wildlife projects and other nature-related themes are of interest, but all works appropriate for a public golf course will be considered. Work should be of material that is vandal-resistant and suitable for Colorado weather. The total budget for this project is $25,000, including installation. This project is being funded through the City of Englewood's annual Public Art Fund allocation and the annual Colorado Lottery Fund allocation. The installation date is tentatively scheduled for mid-April so that the piece(s) will be in place for the May 2008 opening of the newly redesigned golf course. The deadline for submissions is Friday, August 31, 2007. The tentative selection date is October 15. Public Art Commissions - Phoenix, AZ
The Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture Public Art Program invites qualified artists to apply to four major new public art commissions. These will be design-team opportunities to develop significant artworks that help define the look and feel of a new automated train system and several stations planned for Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PSHIA). The chosen artists will work with a team of engineers, architects and other professionals to design the system, which will link all airport terminals and the PSHIA rental- car center with the city's new light rail line. Design for the first phase of the system is approaching 30%. Construction of the first phase is expected to be completed in 2013, the second phase by 2020. The opportunities will initially include the design of three train stations, pedestrian and train bridges, and the piers supporting elevated portions of the automated train line. Station floors, platforms, canopies and other essential features are expected to be part of the artistic mix. Landmark artworks at key airport entries and sites are also possible. Public Art Request for Qualifications, Montclair, NJ. Budget: $25,000. A century-old Masonic Temple is being converted to a state-of-the-art spa in the heart of Montclair, NJ s central business district 12 miles west of New York City. BangZ Salon and Wellness Spa, in cooperation with the Montclair Arts Council, is commissioning artworks which will be affixed to the original double doors on the front of the building at its main entrance. Materials may include, but are not limited to, copper, bronze, other metals, wood, glass and paint. Materials should be durable, easily maintainable and provide necessary structural integrity. CALL FOR ENTRY. The award winning redevelopment of Denver’s former Stapleton International Airport announces its initial public art opportunity with a commission of $110,000. The focus of this public art project located in a residential area is the ellipse at East 35th Avenue and Xenia Street that is also an important component of the larger system of parks and parkways at Stapleton. This extended median is an active place for walking, jogging and informal activities such as sports, picnicking or just relaxing. For more information about Stapleton visit www.StapletonDenver.com. The Project Selection Committee considers this site as an opportunity for unique artwork appropriate to a residential part of the diverse urban community that is Stapleton. The artwork should encourage interaction and could be composed of a single element or multiple elements.
