Ox-Bow Residencies - Saugatuck, MI
Two to five week residencies, September 8-October 12, 2007. Fall Artists in Residence at Ox-Bow are given the time, solitude, and focus often unavailable to so many working artists. At Ox-Bow, artists can enjoy 24-hour access to their studios, and an inspirational and historic setting, free from the expectations of commercial and academic demands. During the fall season, artists in residence have the opportunity to work in studios not available during the summer session. They also enjoy a more intimate community of like-minded, yet diverse professionals. Yet, because Ox-Bow is rooted in a sense of community, artists in residence are invited to engage with the local communities of Saugatuck and Douglas, by hosting lectures, open houses, and a gallery show space. Cost: $100 per week (includes room and board and use of studios). Artists in Residence must bring their own supplies (inks and paper for Print, clay and glazes for Ceramics, etc). Most meals are also included in the cost. A limited number of residency scholarships, covering a portion of the fee, are available through the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs and the Metternich endowment. Applications are due July 30, 2007. For more information, call 800.318.3019 or email sworkn@saic.edu to request an application.

Body of Christ
In the last twenty-five years, art that explicitly engages Christian faith has become increasingly visible both in the church and in the secular world. During that same period, many institutions of theological education have come to recognize that art is both a record of what earlier generations have believed about the nature of human life and its relationship to the divine, and a means of accessing our own understandings and emotions. Experiences with and conversations about the arts can deepen our liturgical and devotional life, and perhaps even help us to bridge denominational divides. The proposed exhibition entitled Body of Christ is one way to foster such experiences and conversations. Planned for late October through mid-December, 2007, the nationally juried exhibition will feature works in painting, printmaking, sculpture, and other media which engage the literal and metaphoric meanings inherent in that phrase which is so familiar to all who share the Bread and Cup of new life. Rather than being confined to a single venue, works will be exhibited in galleries or other appropriate spaces at member institutions of the Washington Theological Consortium. Open to any artist of 18 years or over residing in North America. Deadline for entries: July 30, 2007. Dadian Gallery, 4500 Massachusetts Ave. NW, Washington, DC 20016. www.washtheocon.org/bodyofchrist

Self Reflection
Northampton Arts Council will present Self Reflection, a juried exhibition of self-portraits by artists living and working in Western Massachusetts. The Hosmer Art Gallery at Forbes Library will host this event in October 2007. Self portrait has been an often-used genre for artists to use throughout the history of art. Self portraits are a way for artists to examine their personal lives and inner psyches. Using the intimate subject of "the self," artists reveal themselves by making the private, public. Our personal lives and inner conversations are fertile ground for developing ideas and imagery of universal concern. It is hoped that the self portraits created for this exhibition will reflect not simply the talent, but the lives and essences of Western Massachusetts artists. Deadline: August 15, 2007. For more information, go to: www.northamptonartscouncil.org. Northampton Arts Council, Inc., 240 Main Street, Memorial Hall, Northampton, MA 01060.
