Hands Off! is an international digital photography exhibition showing a new phenomenon in art: the ability for the artist to create a finished piece without ever touching the artwork. If accepted, the artist sends in a digital file that the gallery prints at 8x10 inches and frames at 11x14 inches. During the month long exhibition, over $1000 in cash and prizes will be awarded. This includes the Best of Show, awarded by image-maker and juror Robert Fichter, of $150 and the winning framed print as well as product prizes. Entrants submit three JPG files of original work. Entries must be shot with a digital camera and can be manipulated digitally. The competition is international, open to all geographic locations, and also open themed. Reconfigured
The Basement Gallery is asking artists to submit work samples and/or proposals for work to fit the exhibition title Reconfigured. This call for entries will be controlled more by the artist's interpretation of what they think or feel the exhibition title means to them specifically, with no over produced explanation and no strict guidelines- a more open ended set of parameters, so that the show will come together more organically than structured. An exhibition that is more "organic" in its creation and more receptive to artists extending the boundaries of what this exhibition could become--where the artists have a title and the work they submit will spin out of what one makes of it. The fee for entry is $20.00 for 4 images per individual artist. Each artist may submit up to 5 additional images and details at $2.00 each. Postmark entry deadline is August 24, 2007. The Basement Gallery, 103-B West Jackson Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37902. For more information, go to: www.thebasementgallery.net.
