I had no idea there would be a marketing lesson in store as I headed across the Mississippi River on my way to a country fair in Millstadt, Illinois, located just across the river from St. Louis, Missouri. Once there, I saw the expected: pony rides, face painting and strawberry picking...but what really caught my attention was the arts and crafts area. About a dozen or more tables and tents were set up to sell everything from country wood crafts to scented candles to hand-sewn clothing.

In Solitude
December 2-31, 2005. An exhibition of new works by ArtistsRegister.com member Kate Timmerman examines the relationship between art and solitude. The exhibition reflects on how personal communication with others is replaced by solitary confinement as the artist chooses to work. Timmerman peers into the quiet moments when new insights or discoveries are attained, but recognizes the anxiety that drives this search for meaning. The exhibition will take place at eye lounge: a contemporary art space is located at 419 E. Roosevelt Street along the Roosevelt Row Arts District in downtown Phoenix, Arizona. The 10th Annual Arizona State University Art Museum Short Film and Video Festival. Artist Career Development Grants - Phoenix, AZ
These grants provide financial support for individual Phoenix artists in all disciplines. The program is designed to assist practicing, professional, and emerging artists with specific professional development and skill building opportunities that advance their work and careers, such as: Attendance at workshops/festivals/conferences/institutes/short- courses/retreats/master classes; Seminars that focus on an artistic or business aspect of the artist's career; Fees for consultancies in an area of career development; Study with a mentor; Exposure of the artist's work to a broader public; Preparation of artist portfolios, work samples, marketing materials or websites; Participation in a performance or exhibition opportunity of significance. The Artist Career Development Grants pilot program is funded through a partnership with the Arizona Commission on the Arts. CALOP Call For Entries
The University City Commission for Access and Local Original Programming (CALOP) seeks immediate applications for funding of video and film projects focused on the arts, culture and history of University City and of the greater St. Louis region. Specifically, CALOP seeks quality original documentaries, videotaped performances and original films illuminating under publicized or little understand aspects of each area of focus to be broadcast on cable and offered to citizens via the University City Public Library and other forums. The commission also seeks bids on a specific proposal to produce a documentary on University City's 2006 Centennial celebrations. The deadline for all entries is December 30, 2005. Call for Iranian and Iranian Diaspora Art
Iranian Alliances Across Borders (IAAB) Art is accepting submissions from Iranian and Iranian diaspora artists for its upcoming exhibition, which will open in 2007/2008. IAAB Art is especially interested in works that explore any of the following issues: Identity, Tradition, Stereotypes, and Society. Sculpture Exhibition - Big Rock Garden
Big Rock Garden Park in Bellingham, Washington is a beautiful 2.5 acre botanical garden that is designated as the City sculpture park. The exhibit will be widely advertised and promoted as one of the premier sculpture venues in the Pacific Northwest. Big Rock Garden Park is listed in numerous Pacific Northwest guidebooks. Bellingham is located between Seattle, Washington, and Vancouver, BC, Canada. The goal of the exhibit is to showcase sculpture for placement in intimate public spaces or private gardens. Enlightenment 2006
VSA arts of Michigan solicits artwork created by artists with disabilities, young and old, for Enlightenment 2006, this coming year's emerging artists touring exhibition. VSAMI promotes creative power in people with disabilities, and seeks to create a society where people with disabilities participate in, learn through, excel in, and enjoy the arts. VSAMI, a state affiliate of VSA arts in Washington, D.C., has advocated for arts in education and increased opportunities for experiences and training within educational and community programs for persons with disabilities since 1977. VSAMI, founded as a cooperative venture between the Michigan Alliance for Arts Education and the Michigan Department of Education, has expanded to a statewide structure which networks with and provides direct assistance to district organizations. HUB-BUB Arts Residencies
Three emerging visual artists and one creative writer will "live free and create" in a 1920s-era Cadillac store currently under renovation in downtown Spartanburg, SC as part of the new HUB-BUB Artists-in-Residence Program. Applications from creative people aged 20 to 30 are being accepted through February 1, 2006 for this innovative, 11-month program. The residencies are associated with the HUB-BUB.com arts movement in Spartanburg, founded earlier this year by the city's young artists, musicians, writers and activists. Little White Lies
First Person Arts announces a contest for Memoir Writing, Photography, and New Documentary Film. The contest has the unified theme, Little White Lies. Have you ever told a little white lie? West Harlem Art Fund
The West Harlem Art Fund, Inc. and the Artists Selection Committee are seeking proposals that embrace strong visual appeal and sensitivity that will attract more visitors and residents to several private and public locations including all four historic Harlem parks. Placement and installation at park locations will require input from the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation's Temporary Public Art Coordinator and Park District Managers. Toofy Film Fest

The 3rd annual Toofy Film Fest 2006 provides audiences with the finest independent movies, music, fine art, and fashion. This international independent film festival creates an environment where artists will network and view independent cinema that proves to the world what true independent filmmaking is all about. City of Atlanta
The City of Atlanta's Public Art Programs: The Office of Cultural Affairs and the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport Art Program, invite artists to submit their qualifications for current and future public art projects. Selected artists will be added to an active register for a wide variety of public art projects at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and within the City of Atlanta. Artists on the register will be considered for direct purchase, site specific commissions, artists architect collaborations, design services and artists/community collaborations. Eligibility: All professional artists are eligible to apply to the registry but we are especially interested in those with previous public art experience, interest in site-specific commissions or those who involve the public in their work. Artist may submit alone or as a team. The City of Atlanta Public Art Programs encourage artists working in all visual art disciplines to apply, including but not limited to, sculptors, painters, muralist, mosaicists, photographers, videographers, printmakers, animators, light and sound artists, graphic designers, conceptual artists, etc. Deadline: midnight MST, January 16, 2006. NOTE: This is a paperless application. No slides or hard copy materials will be accepted for this project. Each application must be submitted online via CaFE, callforentry.org. First time applicants must allow enough time to prepare their images to CaFE specifications and finalize the electronic submission prior to the January 16th deadline. Research has shown that it takes approx. 1.5 hours to prepare images and submit an application, dependent on a variety of factors.
